Our Story: Faith, Community, and Purpose
Discover the heart and heritage of Ajegunle Baptist Church
Who We Are
A Community of Believers in the Heart of Agbowo
Ajegunle Baptist Church began in 1969 with a simple vision: to create a place where people could encounter God’s presence, grow in biblical truth, and discover their purpose. What started as an inspiration in the heart of one man has blossomed into a thriving community of hundreds of believers from all walks of life.
Located in Agbowo, Ibadan, we serve as a spiritual home for students, families, professionals, and retirees from across the region – including Orogun, Ojo, Sango, Samonda, Ajibode, and beyond. As a proud member of the Nigerian Baptist Convention, we stand on a rich heritage of biblical faithfulness, missionary passion, and local church autonomy.
But our story is not about buildings or programmes, it is about transformed lives. It is about the student who found hope in the midst of academic pressure. The marriage restored through biblical counseling. The young professional who discovered their calling. The child who encountered Jesus for the first time in Sunday School.
This is who we are: an imperfect community of people pursuing a perfect God, committed to building Godly character through the transforming power of His Word.
Our Journey: From Faith to Faithfulness
1969 – A Vision Born
Two faithful men, Timothy Adebayo Adewuyi and Timothy Adetola Ogundeji Ojo, sensed God’s call to establish a church in Agbowo. On November 23, 1969, 33 worshippers gathered in a barber/tailor’s shop for the first service.
Â
1974 – A Permanent Home
After challenges with land acquisition, God provided our current site. Through faith and the generosity of Nigerian Baptist Convention leaders, we secured our permanent location.
Â
1976 – Organized and Growing
The church was formally organized on July 4, 1976, with a new organ, building fund launched, and construction begun.
Â
1979 – Maturing Ministry
Our constitution was approved, solidifying our governance and commitment to biblical principles.
Â
Today – Still Building Godly People
Over five decades later, we continue the vision of those two faithful Timothys—building Godly people who choose to win by righteousness.
Why We Exist
Our Mission
To build Godly people who choose to win by righteousness through biblical teaching, authentic worship, compassionate service, and intentional discipleship.
Our Vision
A community of believers who exemplify Christ-like character, impact their world with the Gospel, and raise up the next generation of faithful disciples.
What We Believe
As Baptists, we hold firmly to historic Christian orthodoxy while embracing the distinctive convictions that have defined our heritage for centuries.
